Making Notes

Dr Levy provides independent Educational Psychology assessments for children and young people with a wide range of special educational needs. There is a focus on developing a comprehensive understanding of a child or young person’s strengths, needs and barriers to participation in education through detailed psychological assessment, consultation and evidence-based formulation.

Assessments draw together information from families, educational settings, direct assessment and clinical observation to provide independent psychological advice and clear recommendations regarding the provision required to meet a child or young person’s special educational needs.

Dr Levy has specialist experience in providing independent Educational Psychology advice within the context of Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments, annual reviews, mediation and SEND Tribunal proceedings. Alongside written evidence, Dr Levy regularly attend SENDIST hearings to provide independent expert psychological evidence.

Families and professionals commonly seek Educational Psychology involvement where:

  • A child or young person may require an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

  • An existing EHCP does not accurately reflect a child’s needs

  • There is disagreement regarding educational provision or placement

  • Specialist educational provision is being considered

  • Independent psychological evidence is required for mediation or SEND Tribunal proceedings

  • A child or young person presents with complex learning, neurodevelopmental or social, emotional and mental health needs
